The ball lens caps are components in which a ball lens polished with high precision is joined to a metal can by using sealing glass. The main usage of this product is a package for light collection or coupling. Although the coupling efficiency of ball lens caps is inferior to that of aspherical lens caps, they are used around the world mainly for optical communication access systems because of their lower cost.
Yamamura Photonics has standard size caps for TO-CAN. Also, we support some design changes such as in height and lens, completely new design of the particular shape, and custom design in optical coating. In addition, since we have abundant mass production results, we can start mass production in a short period and support the speedy development of our customers.

Excellent hermeticity / High reliability
In the ball lens caps, metal cans and ball lenses are joined using sealing glass. Therefore, these products have highly reliable hermeticity and conform to various international standards (Telcordia, JIS, etc.).
Hermeticity:under 1×10-9Pa・m3/s
Reliability: Pass the Temperature Cycling Test(-55 ⇔ +125℃)2000cyc、and the Damp Heat Test (+85℃, 85％ ×2000h)

Refractive indexes of ball lens are three kinds, nd = 1.5, 1.8, and 2.0, as standard products.
Custom design support for size and optical coating
We provide integrated support from design to mass production. We can handle both design changes based on standard products and entirely new designs. We also design and propose coatings that optimize optical characteristics according to the wavelength range used and the purpose.
In addition, we usually propose machined metal cans to reduce the prototype cost in the development stage.
